Speaker Spotlight: The Art of Experimental Brewing 🧪

If you’ve ever picked up a homebrewing book or listened to a brewing podcast, chances are you’ve learned a thing or two from our next guest. We are incredibly excited to announce that Drew Beechum will be taking the SCHF Main Stage on SCHF Saturday! A titan in the homebrewing world and a legend in the Los Angeles scene, Drew is here to help us cut through the “angst” of modern brewing and get back to the heart of why we do this. Whether you’re a technical gear-head or a “keep it simple” brewer, Drew’s perspective on the soul of the hobby is the perfect reminder of why we fell in love with fermentation in the first place.
Bio – Drew Beechum
Drew Beechum has been homebrewing since 1999 in Los Angeles. He’s the Vice Chair of the newly independent American Homebrewers Association and the Grand Hydrometer of the Maltose Falcons. He’s written way too much about fermentation including Experimental Homebrewing and Simple Homebrewing. He still sometimes remembers to record his podcast with Denny Conn – Experimental Brewing
Talk Overview – “Why Homebrewing Matters”
There’s a lot of angst about brewing these days. It’s important for us to take a step back and remember why homebrewing matters. How it connects us to the long history of humanity. Just what it means to meditatively putter or brew defensively. And lastly how to recharge everyone’s love and enthusiasm for this absolutely delightful and goofy hobby.
